Inaugural Season Sets the Foundation for Lady Seahawks Flag Football

SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. - Every program has a first snap. For South Walton girls flag football, the 2025-26 season was that first snap, and the Lady Seahawks made it count.

Competing in FHSAA Class 2A District 1, South Walton finished its inaugural campaign 6-8 overall. For a roster that was learning a brand new varsity sport together, six wins represented real progress, and the losses brought lessons the team carried into every practice that followed.

"We asked these athletes to be the first, and they embraced it," the coaching staff said. "They set the standard for effort, for showing up for each other, and for representing South Walton the right way."

Some of the season's best moments came under the lights at the Hawks Nest, where students, families and the Santa Rosa Beach community packed the stands to cheer on a team writing the first chapter of its history. Those home nights turned a new sport into a new tradition.

Just as important as the wins was the culture built along the way. Veterans became mentors, first-year players became contributors, and a group of athletes from different sports and backgrounds became a true team.

That momentum now points to 2027. The Lady Seahawks open February 23 at Washington, with six home dates on the schedule at the Hawks Nest. The foundation is poured. Year two is about building on it.
